THERE'S A VERY BROAD LINE BETWEEN STUPID AND CLEVER, REALLY

A long-held and iron-clad belief of mine is that the best comedy of all time is Caddyshack, followed by The Big Lebowski and Planes, Trains, and Automobiles. But if we're talking funniest comedy, like highest laugh density, then it's a three-way brawl among The Naked Gun: From The Files of Police Squad!, Monty Python & The Holy Grail, and This Is Spinal Tap. TIST not only drops jokes in six packs, it so accurately portrays dunderheaded heavy rock band cliches that at least one close friend of mine neglected to notice it was a parody.

So now that the BBC reports that Tap is heading to the studio to record new material, including LiveEarth highlight "Warmer Than Hell," I can rejoice like Oprah at a frosting party. I've also heard totally unconfirmed rumblings of a possible tour. Which would be nice since I was too young to catch the Break Like The Wind shows, and had only their historic guest turn on The Simpsons to balm that wound of searing disappointment. Oh, and their appearance on The Late Show with David Letterman, which contributed to my closet brush with pants-shitting since toddlerdom.

This shit is going to be slightly hilariouser than the numbskull on Blabbermouth who, at the age of 15, isn't in on the joke and has loudly decried Tap as crappy hard rock. To quote The Wire's Kima Greggs: "No shit, fucknuts."
